My elliptical shows "Kcal" burned?

I just bought a used elliptical and it shows "Kcal" instead of "calories" i have seen elsewhere. So today I burned 271 Kcal on it in 35 mins...and when I am trying to use converter online, it just multiplies it by 1000 to convert in calories which is just impossible. Can anyone explain to me what it is or what it should be?
