I have a MAC and have Open Office, so my files are saved as ODT. I need to convert them to DOC,?

SO i have two questions, is there a free converter for this, and once i get it converted, since I do not have Microsoft word and I save it as a DOC, I know I wont be able to see it, but can the person I send it to see it? Thank you ahead of time for any help!
