Do dealerships have to fix emission related issues within 30 days of sale?

I just bought a suv from a small dealer and the check engine light came on after only one week. I the mechanic said it's the O2 sensor or catalytic converter. Then he said dealers have to repair any smog/emission related issues within 30 days of sale. Is this true???? I am in California by the way.
