How can I convert JPEG to RGB?

I don't have photoshop... I have a macbook pro with iPhoto and anything i can download off the internet would help. The only problem is that I tried a converter online and it worked but then when I tried to download the image in RGB format it said my computer couldn't read the type of photo? Thanks for the help.
